Who it's for:
For anyone who needs to record a lot of channels at once, like a drum kit or a full band, and wants a more affordable option than the 8-preamp interfaces from the big brands.
What stands out:
You get 8 Ultra-HDDA preamps on the XLR inputs, known for being clean and very low noise, plus 8 TRS line inputs, 2 of which can be switched to high impedance so you can plug a guitar or bass straight in.
It has its own low-latency driver on Windows and a built-in DSP mixer with 4-band EQ, a compressor and a low-cut filter on every channel, plus 10 snapshots to save and recall your setups quickly.
It can also work as a standalone preamp with no computer, sending all 8 mics straight to the line outputs, which is really handy in live situations.
What's missing:
No DAW software in the box. It tops out at 24-bit/96kHz, unlike Tascam's own HR interfaces that go up to 192kHz. It needs an external power supply, it isn't bus-powered.
Bottom line:
One of the most affordable ways to get 8 quality mic preamps plus an onboard DSP mixer. A solid choice for sessions with lots of channels.
